The Gozo Regional Development Authority (GRDA) has launched a public consultation process regarding the proposal for the urban upgrading of Victoria.
The concept addresses some of the major challenges facing the locality of Victoria in particular and Gozo in general, namely the lack of green open spaces and lack of parking spaces. The proposal covers an area of over 22,000 square meters and has the potential to redesign the entire concept of mobility in Victoria. Central to this vision is the transformation of the existing parking space and adjacent playing field into a green and open space with an underground car park accommodating around 800 vehicles.
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri stated that this proposal being put forward by the GRDA builds on the Government’s vision, that of generating open spaces in the centre of our towns and villages. “I welcome with satisfaction this initiative that the Authority is undertaking. This is the first step to start this major project in Gozo which will bring a drastic change in Victoria” said the Minister for Gozo. Minister Camilleri claimed that this urban regeneration will be a holistic project that will deal with the challenges of lack of recreational space, the lack of parking availability whilst traffic congestion will also be addressed.
GRDA’s CEO, Mr Mario Borġ said that the consultation process to offer an opportunity to those interested to give their contribution so that this project addresses the present and future challenges. He emphasized that the concept that the Authority is presenting is not a final one but is intended to kickstart a discussion from the public in general and main stakeholders. Mr. Borg invited everyone to contribute during this consultation process and remarked that relevant documents are available on the website of the same Authority.
The public consultation process will come to a close on 1st September 2023.
