Public Meeting – Reform in the Building and Construction Industry
The Gozo Regional Development Authority (GRDA) in collaboration with the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) organised a public meeting to explain the upcoming reform in the building and construction industry.
One of the main functions of the Building & Construction Authority is the implementation of the first ever National Building Codes. This will lead towards the transformation of the industry in the coming years which will ensure a stronger and more sustainable industry while improving the quality of life and provide peace of mind to all families.
In a meeting with the operators of the construction industry in Gozo, the Chief Executive of the Gozo Regional Development Authority, Mario Borg, urged the Building and Construction Authority to continue to meet with Gozitan operators to hear their views as he argued that the needs may differ from those of Maltese operators.
The Authority’s Officer, Michael Ferry, said that with this certificate operators in the industry can work anywhere even in European Union countries. Mr Ferry said the measure is part of the National Building Code which is the first of its kind in the country. He explained that the code will lead to the strengthening of the construction industry while offering reassurance to the residents who live next door to buildings where construction work is underway.
The meeting, which was open to all stakeholders in the industry, was also addressed by the CEO of the Building & Construction Authority, Mr Karl Azzopardi, the Executive Chairman of the Building Industry Consultastive Council, Architect Charles Buhagiar, the Parliamentary Secretary Responsible for Lands and Construction Chris Agius and the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri
